More Than 25,000 People Experience EMERGENCY EXIT at Barcelona’s La Mercè Festival

Following its appearances at EXIT, Sea Star and Boom Festival, EMERGENCY EXIT brought its blend of art, music and environmental activism to Barcelona on 24 September. Presented as part of La Mercè, the city’s largest annual festival, the immersive performance reached an audience of more than 25,000 people. This year’s edition of the festival, known as the “festival of festivals”, ran from 23 to 27 September, with artistic and cultural events taking place across the city.

In Barcelona, EMERGENCY EXIT offered audiences an extraordinary immersive experience combining music, theatre, movement, visual elements and multimedia. With no clear boundary between performers and audience, visitors became part of the performance and its journey through a world confronting the consequences of the environmental crisis. The music was composed by Satori, while the artistic production was developed by La Fura dels Baus, a company renowned for its innovative approach to urban and immersive theatre. The visual elements were created by Barcelona-based multimedia studio Eyesberg, which specialises in video mapping, lasers and interactive installations.

Following Barcelona, EMERGENCY EXIT will continue to bring together music, art, ecology and activism across different festival and cultural settings. At the heart of the project is the message “Peace on Earth, Peace with Earth” and a call for a more responsible relationship with the planet. Those who believe change is necessary can join the initiative by signing the Manifesto for Saving the Planet.

EMERGENCY EXIT is co-produced by the EXIT Foundation and La Fura dels Baus, in collaboration with Boom Festival, Sea Star Festival and Dutch environmental organisation Buro Nuvo. The project was created with the support of the European Union through the Creative Europe programme.

Emergency EXIT

Emergency EXIT is an ambitious and unique international cooperation project that brings together leading cultural organisations, festivals, and sustainability experts to champion environmental responsibility through the power of the arts.

Led by EXIT Foundation (Serbia), in partnership with La Fura dels Baus (Spain), Green Events (Netherlands), Sea Star Festival (Croatia), and Boom Festival (Portugal), the project unites diverse creative forces in a joint mission to inspire action for the planet. Supported by the Creative Europe programme, Emergency EXIT blends artistic innovation with environmental advocacy to explore how festivals and large-scale cultural events can lead the transition toward more sustainable practices.

Through co-created performances, workshops, and public engagement, the project fosters collaboration between artists, producers, and audiences. At its heart lies a shared message—“Peace on Earth, Peace with Earth”—delivered not only through art, but through real change in how events are designed, produced, and experienced.

Emergency EXIT will develop and tour a unique interdisciplinary production across key European festivals, while also promoting the Manifesto for the Salvation of the Planet, an evolving pledge inviting all cultural actors to commit to sustainability. At the same time, the project will be presented at forums such as ADE Green, amplifying its impact across the creative industries.

More than a project, Emergency EXIT is a platform for cooperation, exchange, and transformation — inviting all artists and festivals on this planet, and each of you, wherever you are, to join this mission for a more conscious future!
